Entry is by audition every year, including returning members.
Applications closed on Monday 14 September 2026, 11.59pm. Mid-year entry is still worth asking about, and the requirements below are broadly the same each year.

Who can apply
Students and recent graduates anywhere in London, regardless of field of study.
What to prepare
- A solo of your own choosing
The panel listens to the first 5 minutes and no further. Two contrasting extracts are encouraged!
- Orchestral excerpts
Drawn from the season ahead; these are just as important as the solo.
- Doubling excerpts, if you want them
Optional, if you want to be considered for a second instrument.

Recording it
- One take is not expected
Separate files for the solo and each excerpt are accepted.
- Lowest resolution you have
480p or 720p is plenty and keeps each file under 100MB. Original audio, no enhancement, internal microphone.
- We want to see you!
For strings, this means as much of the fingerboard and bow as possible.

Turning up
Attendance is expected at every rehearsal, and joining the orchestra means agreeing to the depping policy.
Advice
The panel listens for rhythm, intonation, sound, style and musicality, in the excerpts as much as the solo.
